Gerund or infinitive
Some verbs want -ing, some want to. It is not about meaning — it is about the verb in front.

I enjoy swimming. She is good at swimming.
: L'infinito con to nomina l'azione senza collocarla nel tempo. Dopo molti verbi porta un'idea di scopo o di qualcosa non ancora fatto: I want to leave, I hope to see you, I need to ask.
: È l'unico punto dove non c'è nessuna lista da imparare: dopo QUALSIASI preposizione il verbo prende sempre -ing. before leaving, without asking, interested in learning, good at cooking, instead of waiting. Nessuna eccezione.

Golden rule
Attenzione a to come preposizione. In look forward to, be used to e get used to, quel to NON è un infinito: è una preposizione, quindi quello che segue prende -ing. I look forward to seeing you, mai to see you.
