The polite imperative
How to give instructions and make requests formally, using Lei: «Scusi», «Mi dica», «Si accomodi», «Prego, entri».

The forms
: When we use Lei (formal register: with people we do not know, in shops, offices, with older people), the imperative does not use the tu forms, but the present subjunctive forms. «Scusa» (tu) becomes «Scusi» (Lei); «Senti» becomes «Senta»; «Vieni» becomes «Venga».
Le forme regolari
The regular forms: verbs in -are take -i (parli, aspetti, entri), those in -ere and -ire take -a (prenda, senta, dorma). Verbs with -isc- make -isca (finisca, preferisca). It is the same pattern as the third person of the present subjunctive.
