Imprecise quantities

: Indefinites are words that indicate an imprecise, undefined quantity or identity: alcune persone, ogni giorno, qualcosa di bello. They can be adjectives (they accompany a noun) or pronouns (they stand alone).

qualche = alcuni

Watch out for qualche and alcuni: they have the same meaning («some»), but qualche always goes with a singular noun (qualche amico), while alcuni/alcune goes with the plural (alcuni amici). You never say «qualche amici».

ogni ≠ tutto

Ogni is invariable and always goes with a singular noun, to indicate totality item by item: ogni giorno, ogni studente, ogni volta. Tutto, instead, agrees and requires the article: tutto il giorno, tutta la notte, tutti i giorni, tutte le notti.

Nessuno, niente and nulla are negative. If they come after the verb, double negation with non is needed: Non c'è nessuno; Non ho visto niente. If they come before the verb, non is not used: Nessuno è venuto; Niente è cambiato.

qualcosa e qualcuno

Qualcosa and qualcuno are only pronouns (they stand alone). With an adjective, qualcosa requires di: qualcosa di bello, qualcosa di nuovo. Qualcuno indicates an unspecified person: Ha telefonato qualcuno.
