: The passato remoto is a simple tense (one word) that narrates completed actions distant in time, with no link to the present. It is the typical tense of written narration, fairy tales, novels and history: «Dante nacque nel 1265», «C'era una volta un re che regnò a lungo».

Lo schema 1-3-3

Many verbs in -ere are irregular, but follow a «1-3-3» pattern: they are irregular only in the first person singular (io), the third singular (lui/lei) and the third plural (loro); the other persons (tu, noi, voi) stay regular. Example: prendere → presi, prendesti, prese, prendemmo, prendeste, presero.
