Direct object pronouns
One word in place of the noun — and the participle ending that changes with lo/la/li/le.

Don't repeat: replace
: The direct object pronoun takes the place of the object (chi? che cosa?, with no preposition) so you don't repeat the noun. The forms are mi, ti, lo, la, ci, vi, li, le. In the 3rd person (lo/la/li/le) it agrees in gender and number with the word it replaces.
Vedo Marco.

Lo vedo.
Mangio la mela.
→
La mangio.
Leggo i libri.
→
Li leggo.
Compro le scarpe.
→
Le compro.
Aspetti me?
→
Mi aspetti?
Chiamano noi.

Ci chiamano.
Regola d'oro
It answers chi? or che cosa? and takes the place of the direct object. It goes BEFORE the conjugated verb (Lo vedo) and agrees in gender and number only in the 3rd person: lo / la / li / le.

La forma di cortesia: La
With the polite «Lei» the direct object pronoun is La (often capitalized), for both a man and a woman: «Signor Bianchi, La ringrazio.» · «Signora, La richiamo io.» It's the same form as the 3rd person feminine, but here it means the formal «Lei» ("you").
Lo sapevi? · lo/la → l'
Before a vowel or the h of the verb avere, lo and la become l': «Hai visto il film? Sì, l'ho visto.» · «Ami Anna? Sì, l'amo!» In the plural there is never elision: li ho visti, le ho viste.
